We are a design store based in Christchurch, Aotearoa NZ, and our focus is on supporting and promoting local artists and creatives.

As part of maintaining our creative discipline and focus on our core values, we will be photo documenting a different creation each day that showcases the wealth of creative talent in our beautiful city. Each item must be created or designed by a local Canterbury based artist/designer/creator, and available for purchase in one of our HAPA stores.

As our city rebuilds around us its important to continue to value and acknowledge the creatives, the misfits, the dreamers... and the small businesses that showcase them.

We are the cracks in the pavement, the foraged flowers from demolition sites, the opportunities that arise from chaos...and we are beautiful MAURI ORA!

Day 2: Reuse Recycle Reimagine

Love/Aroha, Strength/Kia kaha, Family/Whanau

When I met this amazing local jeweller and maker Sonia Thérèse, I think I fell in love. She's a dynamo of a woman! Strong, positive, supportive, magnificent, spiritually connected - and her work ethic is so admirable as she continually experiments and pushes boundaries.

Her entire range is made with recycled, ethical and sustainable materials like rimu floorboards and copper flashing from demolished housing - her philosophy is that we have mined enough precious metals, have felled enough forests, have thrown enough trash away – there is no need to continue with this destructive behaviour in order to make beautiful jewellery!

Creatives like Sonia are thinking about the world beyond our own mortality... how will our actions today impact on generations to come. Be mindful, be purposeful, be thoughtful, be conservative with our precious resources... and help others to do the same.

"You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make"

~ Jane Goodall
